Qalat, Afghanistan, April 8 (Xinhua) Up to 16 people were killed and 20 wounded Tuesday when two long-distance buses crashed in southern Afghan province of Zabul, sources said.

“The passenger buses crashed head on head along a main road in Shahr-i-Safa District along Kabul-Kandahar Highway at around 9:30 a.m. local time, leaving the casualties,” the district governor Khaliq Ayuobi told Xinhua.

The injured, including a woman, were shifted to a district hospital, he said.

The official blamed reckless driving for the incident, saying carelessness of the drivers might have led to the bloody road accident.

Reckless driving on congested roads and highways is the main cause of road accidents in Afghanistan.
