9 people killed as passenger train hits minibus in Turkey

Ankara, March 20 (Xinhua) A passenger train hit a minibus carrying workers in Mersin province in southern Turkey on Thursday morning, killing at least nine people and injuring many others, private Dogan news agency reported.

The train, on the way from southern Adana to Mediterranean port city of Mersin, collided with a minibus when the vehicle was passing through a railway crossing near Taskent station, Mersin Police Chief Hasan Huseyin Bahar was quoted as saying.

The minibus, which was completely destroyed, was transporting workers to a factory, he noted.

An investigation was underway, the report said.

One passenger has been announced dead according to TV reports, while 12 have been reported injured with six of them being critical.
