Collision in Upper Egypt Causes 14 Deaths

Cairo, Jan 21 (Prensa Latina) The collision of a minibus with a truck in Upper Egypt on Sunday left 14 people dead, authorities reported today, regarding a series of traffic catastrophes that seems endless.

The accident occurred on the road that links the Red Sea with Assiut in the south and 13 were also reported injured, the majority being passengers of the minibus according to details released today.

The latest available statistics for traffic accidents since 2011 say that seven thousand people were killed in Egypt in 2010 and 2011, almost eight percent more than in 2009.

Just two weeks ago, a wagon carrying Army recruits derailed in Badrashin City, south of the capital, killing 19 recruits and injuring more than a hundred, some seriously.

Last November, the country was shocked by the death of 51 children between six and seven years old caused by negligence of the driver of the bus they were traveling and a defective barrier in the southern part of the country.
