Heavy Floods in Indonesia Killed 15 People

Jakarta, Jan 19 (Prensa Latina) At least 15 dead and more than 200.000 people affected are the preliminary consequences of the heavy floods occurred in the last hours in Indonesia, as reported by Jakarta Post newspaper.

Sutoro Purwo, spokesman for the Indonesian Disaster Management Agency, said the phenomenon should last even to February and the most affected areas are the capital region and surrounding areas.

He added that water covers about 10 percent of Jakarta with serious affectations to 250.000 people and there are 97.000 households in remote places and poor conditions likely to the development of epidemic.

For three days the heavy rains have caused landslides due to an unusual temporal stage, according to the Agency.
