4-Degree Quake in Manabi Province, Ecuador

Quito, Dec 13 (Prensa Latina) An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 on the Richter scale was registered on Thursday in the coastal province of Manabi, Ecuador, according to the Geophysical Institute of the National Polytechnic.

The source said the epicenter was located 11 miles deep, 7 miles north of the town of San Vicente in Manabi.

No victims and material damages have been reported so far.

The 11th of December was also recorded an earthquake of 4.5 degrees on the Richter scale, 6 miles deep in that province.

Ecuador is sensitive to seismic activity because it is located in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire.

At least 38 Earthquakes at or above eight degrees in the Richter scale have been recorded in Ecuador in the last 470 years.
